Everyday I am further inspired by the sounds and smiles that Bernie left us. He was a true pioneer, genius and seemed like a sweetheart. Thank you again Woo master!!!
I was lucky to meet Bernie in the 1980,s while he was touring in Japan with some mutual friends and from then on it was a long lasting friendship.
Judie,Bernie and Bassel invited me to stay with them in Plainfield and Judie and Bernie stayed with me in Tokyo.
He guided my son when he was learning the drums and my son Michael got to Jam with Bernie in Tokyo when he was only 13 years old and something he still talks about today..Bernie was not only a Musician but had a beautiful heart and Soul and think about him all the time..Until we meet again my friend X

There will never be a funkier man on the keys. Long live the Woo! Thank you for the incredible music.
Having the pleasure of growing up in Plainfield and as a youth following the works of Bernie, Bootsy, Funkadelic and Parliament. Hanging out at Steve's Record shop getting the latest and greatest of the P funk activities was very educational. We had our P funk study sessions almost on a daily bases. Certain things can not be said here. But the gifts Bernie and Funkadelic gave us will always hold a special place in our hearts as the music helped shape challenges we all had to face. Thank you Dr. Worrell.
Bernie was such a visionary, Elevation: the upper air, and Funk of Ages are absolutely essential records in the course of my musical development, and life in general. Love you BERNIE! words will never express my gratitude for your genius of Sound! Respect , your groove is immortal!
Dr. Bernie Worrell H.S.L. (His Spirit Lives!)
Thank you Dr. Worrell for all the great music and memories that you gave to me and so many of my generation during the P-Funk movement. I learned a great love for rock, funk, soul, jazz and every other genre of music, because your work helped to open my mind and spirit to the gift you so generously gave. You will be missed, but I listen to your music, forever.

May you play on in heaven as you did on earth
I'm glad you got a little light under the sun!
What an honor it was to have met you and to have had the chance to talk to you when you played a show at our club in Erie PA on Valentine's Day several years ago. I still remember our conversation and what a kind and loving person you were. I was a fan of Parliament as a teenager(and to this day)...one of my very first albums. You were happy to sign my albums and pose for a picture. Thank you for the music and the memories. Peace and Love.
I've spent many days and nights studying you. Whenever I speak of Pfunk, I mention you. Thank you for all the love you gave. Peace
Bernie, you will forever be one of the most special people I was blessed to have in my life. From the time I was a little girl, sitting at your keybord singing 'the sun will come out tomorrow', to having drinks with you at the bar and then the day you met my newborn son, I love you and miss you dearly. Fly high my friend.
My daughter and I sat with you at breakfast in Bellingham last month...finally got to your site. It's a lovely tribute, Judie.
To my dear brother Bernie, you'll
always hold an eternally joyous place in my heart.
Love Joseph

You were the light in Funk !!!!!
I was very young i was amaze because he did best on the keys bless you for your sound sir
Watching" Stop Making Sense w/ David Bryne. Miss Bernie sound.?
We all know what an amazing musician Bernie was. I'm very grateful to have known Bernie. He was also a wonderful, sweet, giving individual. He will be missed.
Rest in Peace. I have a CD from you when your web site was first starting off and I ask for All the Woo in the World. I think one of your family member was email me back and forth until I got it. I had about 5 copies on wax back in the day but you will be missed. Thank you for all the sounds from all the artist you put down keys for the WOO and the Funk will never stop.
Thank you, Dr. Worrell, for giving us your life. I have listened to your music since 1971 and nearly every day thereafter. I love you for that and your family for giving us you. I love your music so much for taking me through happy and sad times, times of success and through setbacks. My wish is to be buried with yours and Parliament Funkadelic's music. I hope my idea for Parliament Funkadelic music, including "Who's a Funkadelic," is one day realized so new generations are always exposed to it. Funkadelic music is love, joy, fun, political, insightful, and most all teaching, and Dr. Worrell's input, therein, is invaluable and immeasurable. When I was a kid, I always loved when you came to my hometown, Columbus, Ohio (though my beautiful mom did not understand you guys - lol). Love you, man...RIP...
Peace to you in your resting. Go with your spirit to the new light.
What a loss. Great artist, good man. Enjoyed your shows so much. We will miss you, Bernie. Fly on!
As I was reading about Alphonse Mouzon passing I read that Bernie passed, I'm in shock! If you've got funk you've got style. You're funkin' in eternity, Bernie, styling forever; you will be missed. A true keyboard master.

I knew it wouldn't last forever, but your music and the world wide influence that you as a member of Parliament Funkadelic will forever remain as a stain of FUNK! I remember going to the Olympia Stadium to see you as a teenager every year that I could. Miss you man!

I met you in June 2000. I got your autograph when you were standing outside of the Knitting Factory in New York City. You gave an outstanding performance that night. Now youre i nheaven with Glenn Goins, Tiki Fulwood, Ray Davis, Cordell Mosson, Garry Shider, Philippe Wynne, Malia Franklin, Eddie Hazel, Flip Cornett, Jessica Cleaves, Roger Troutman, Belita Woods, Skitch Lovett, Richard Kush Griffith, and many more. You will always be a keyboard genius! GOD took you away much too soon. My wife , Debra Willis, is talking to you now. GOD took her in HIS arms on Thursday, May 21, 2015. You'll be greatly missed.
2008 emt+1 with bernie worrell . thank you. the privelege was mine
His music enlightened all who heard it, but his presence lightened my heart. I am deeply touched by the short time I worked with him. He brought light to my heart, wonder to my mind, and funk to my booty.
Thank you, Bernie. RIP
Thank you, Bernie. RIP
RIP to a legend. Thank you for enriching my life with your music. We played the Pfunk as Dj's from a very young age and even before that, after school my friend and I would go through his brothers Parliament/Funkadelic collection in the very early eighties. I was always attracted to the way in which the music was created and some of the sounds were just out there. Your genius on the keyboards was responsible. Rest in Power. :-)
Thinking of you ? listening to others try and play your cord's. Often emulated never duplicated.
You were the best
Just two minutes ago I heard the news. My heart and prayers I send to his family and friends.
The world lost yet another irreplaceable man.
The world lost yet another irreplaceable man.
Rest in peace Bernie and soar with the other angels! You were a blessing not only to the world of music, but to the world. Your legacy will always live on through others, especially to those who also realize and find and use their God given gifts to also contribute to making the world a better place, as you did and always will, through your gift of creating music. Love and blessings.
r.i.p. never forgotten
The stank just left the FUNK!!! R.I.P
Bernie Worrell and his sound talent and vibe have been a part of my life since '70 I was 14. Can't remember a time when I wasn't listening to him he also was one og the most genuinely friendly people I have ever met.May the Heavenly Hosts greet and guide him much respect
A true legend and one of the most innovative and influential artists the world has ever seen. Thanks for sharing with the world, Bernie and making this planet a lot more funky.
The undisputed master of keyboard universe, had the funk all over in it's genes, it's fingers. Deserved so much more credits from the music industry! Bernie is unreplacable! RIP
Bernie, I hope my mom finds you . She was my human metronome growing up. You help me study unusual chords. Always helping the world open their mind, even since you've gone. Much love. We look out for Judie! Rest, brother.

Fuck'n Woo Man! Thank you for the inspiration my Brotha!!! You rock! MUCH Love
I miss you, Bernie. You were a light in my life without really knowing me. I only ever exchanged one email with you but it meant everything to me. The world is lonelier without the sounds you put in it. Thank you so much Judie for supporting and helping this wonderful human. Thank you to the Worrell family and name for all you gave this world. There will never be another Bernie and he has never been properly acknowledged. But those of us who know KNOW how special and wonderful you were and are, Bernie. Every day without you is a day I think about how to carry on your legacy. Bernie Worrell was a hero to this world whether people know or not. All my love forever. Thank you for what you left behind. Thank you for all you are and were. I will NEVER forget you.
I had the extraordinary opportunity to work with Bernie the final 3 years of his life. We created several hours of music that is now coming out. The first album is released and available. The work we did is soulful and in the Native spirit. I really feel that we were drawn together and, I know that it propelled him in a different way. His generous spirit is all over this material and Www.khueex.com is where you can find it.
I first met Bernie in the late 80,s in Tokyo and he was a truly inspiring person, always smiling and always making people laugh. When i visited New York in 1992 we had a few beers in the village and i couldn't remember my friends address so Bernie said to me "no problems stay with me in Plainfield and i,ll bring you back tomorrow and and find your friends address" .That summed him up not only a great musician but a down to earth lovely person.Every year we always met up in Tokyo or London and i miss him deeply. His music will live on forever and will always be known as the WIZZARD of WOO, One day Bernie we will meet again.. Bigs hugs Judie and Basel.XX
Bernie was a giant of American music and he will be sorely missed. I had the pleasure to meet him about 20 years ago and he was one of the nicest, down to earth people I've ever met. I've met other musicians I looked up to before and been disappointed but not with Bernie. He was all class and talent. I went to Nelson Ledges in June with the hopes of seeing him play again but it was not to be. I'll cherish the times I was lucky enough to see him perform. There will never be another like him. My condolences to his family and friends.
Bernie you were (and still are) a huge influence on my studies of orchestration and accompaniment, and I learn something new from you every day. Thank you. Rest peacefully.
Just saw on a Stop Making Sense that Bernie passed away. I'm sure he lived a great life. He had such beautiful energy!
It was my honor working with Bernie for his event at Webster Hall. I had the pleasure of working with 2 times in my life. Once at 92Y Tribeca. New York City The second one was at Webster Hall which was the most memorable Bernie is a loved musician. To witness the people that came out for him. I can't even mention the musicians and that came out to give him respect My love goes to his family and that we may keep his music alive. Much love to his family and him. ???????✌?️
My heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. Worrell. We thank you for sharing your gift with the planet. I am just hearing of your passing my brother and I know for certain that God is pleased with what you did with the gifts that He bestowed upon you; for that was your gift back to Him. Rest In Heavenly Peace
My condolences to the entire Worrell family and friends as well. I just found out about Mr. Worrell's passing today (8/23/16); I guess I've been hiding under a rock because not one word was mentioned about his death in the major media TV networks in NJ. It's a shame too because we all (my boys) knew that he was the glue that kept P-Funk together all those years. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Worrell in a dinner lounge on Broadway in NYC I believe in the early or mid 1990's; and when I saw a man who looked like him playing classical music with a tuxedo on, I had to ask him was he the one and only Bernie Worrell? He replied that he was, and I asked him why was he playing classical music in a dinner lounge and he replied something like this: "Because I need money like everyone else". I never forgot how this legend sounded playing Bach and right then and there I knew that this man was a genius. May I and I have mercy on his soul.

Bernie Worrell has been and will always remain one of the most influential musicians of my life. I am truly heartbroken over his passing, yet grateful and joyous to have experienced the genius of his artistry within my lifetime. I've always wanted to express to him how his music literally changed my life, and I will always regret never actually saying it to him when I had the opportunity to. My condolences and deepest sympathy to the Worrell family, and to his inner circle of friends who knew and loved him the most.

You have been an inspiration to me. I play keyboards because of you. RIP Bernie.

RIP Bernie, nobody funkier than you doing what you do. Sincere condolences to your family. Gone but never forgotten.
P-Funk may have been the best band ever. The last time I saw Bernie was with his orchestra in San Diego on 1-19-2013. Just found a link to the audio from the entire concert, https://archive.org/details/bwo2013-01-19.R26.matrix.flac16. He opened our ears to new sounds and we are forever changed.
I saw Bernie in a show at Dogfish Head in Lewes. He was great. He is an idol to me. He will be missed.
There was no other. Wish I could have jammed with you to learn some of that wisdom you had. RIP Bernie
No one blended all genres of music together in a funkier way!!! Thank you for sharing your genius!!! You will definitely be missed but you left a legacy of music that will live on for many lifetimes!!!

It is unbelievable all the artist and songs your took to a higher level. You will never be forgotten as long as I'm alive. R.I.P Master of the Universe Woo On!!!!!

Getting a statue in Bernie's likeness to inspire and teach people about his impact on music and the lives he touched would be a fitting gesture. Perhaps in his hometown

Bernie, rest in P for eternity. A most generous and gracious man.
GC may have been the conceptual wizard of P.Funk, but Bernie was the MUSICAL wizard, par excellence. Listen closely to the albums on headfones and find all the layers he put in there-- electric pianos, organ, melodica, grand piano, TOY piano. The long violin solo on Funkadelic's 'Adolescent Funk' is actually Bernie-- on synths!
Let's all hip the younger generations to his music so his artistry will be appreciated forever.

It's a real shame that one the greatest musicians this planet has ever seen died over a week ago and I just recognized that today. Where's the big outcry at the social media platforms like in case of David Bowie, Prince or Lemmy. This man was KING OF KINGS!!!

Bernie's music gives joy and laughter to my silent witness and a voice to both my healing transcendent vibrations and my nasty funky cacophonies. His music made me aware of what I already knew in my soul and his sonic power blew the cobwebs out my mind. Blessings to all family, friends, and fans.
Bernie, i met you IN France IN 1984 with h hancock and ma y friends from material. Your Music will still stay for eternity You was à guide for all the funkateers in This worlds ! RIP Bernie. Sidney the funkyfrench
PFunk is a true American original creation that changed the world and is more than a musical genre, but a way of life. Most things build in incremental steps - but not PFunk. PFunk came out of nowhere, breaking all the rules and blowing up everything that had come before it. It also blew my mind and funked me up. I wasn't the only one. Far from it. None of this could have happened without the geniius, imagination and fearlessness of Bernie. Thank you Bernie and RIP.
I loved Bernie's work with both Parliament/Funkadelic and Talking Heads. And what a privilege it was to meet him in person at the NAMM show a few years ago! Rest in peace, Bernie, your memory and music live on.
I'm only 14, but I have already started to plunge into the wonderful world of p-funk and it is incredibly unfortunate that such an incredibly talented musician has left us but I know that his spirit will live on through the fabulous music he has created and the funky legacy he has left.
In a' the years I 've known Bernie..I have never heard him say a bad thing aboot any yin or gurse a nasty word,Always thankful for the love o'family...and thankful tae God for the gift he gave him

A limb has fallen from the family tree that's says grieve not for me. Remember the best times, the laughter, the song, the good life I lived while I was strong. Praying for comfort and strength for the family during this difficult time. Rest in Peace Bernie.
Bernie Worrell got a hold of my musical mind at a very tender young age, turned it upside down, and shook it vigorously until the dust bunnies all fell out. Then he poured in his liquid light interplanetary funk-marinade elixir, sealed up the lid, gave it one more shake for good measure, and sent me on my way. I have never been the same. Nor has the world. Bernie Worrell was so influential that, like the fish who is unaware of the water in which she swims, most of the time we didn't even know he was there. And we simply cannot measure the impact that musical Titans like Bernie had on the shaping and education of our ears. P-Funk is among the most widely sampled musical entities in popular music's history. Their lyrics and beats and hooks and riffs and melodies are so commonly found at the heart of commercial radio hits that one could be forgiven for concluding that people decided to stop making new music after Pfunk came along. Because, why bother? No one could ever be funkier or more raw or more real than they got. And at the backbone of this massive musical assault on your D'VoidofFunk, no-dancin' ass were the dancing fingers and the luminous musical mind of one Bernie Worrell, the Wizard of Woo. Ride in Uhuru, Bernie. Thank you for everything, My Shining Guide through the Gaping Void.
Bernie, thank you for your play music from 1981-2014 Tokyo & Fujirock Fes. in Japan.
I'm loving your live performance and your musical work. Please accept my sincere sympathy.

Bernie's love, art, energy, and music will NEVER be forgotten. It will continue to shape and mold original music for years to come. Energy is neither created nor destroyed, so Bernie's energy remains with us always. I feel it's a shame that selfish individuals such as George Clinton and others continue to take and not give back. Life is a circle, and everything goes a'round. Bernie was such a special and humble soul. Blessed love, light, balance, and respect always...
Got a chance to see Bernie twice with Col Claypools Bucket of Bernie Brains. two of the best shows of my life!!
The Universe was truly generous when it allowed you to be among us for this short time. We were truly blessed to have witnessed such a great talent. Thanks again...Fly on, my Brother
I really cannot think of any words other than expressing the sadness that I feel over the loss of dr. B for several years I have deeply enjoyed this mans music. It's enraging that he never got his full due for the impact he made on the music industry from P-Funk two Talking Heads to a solo career I have never once heard someone's music that I have liked more and more with each song that I heard it is with a tear in my eye that I sadly mourn the loss of nothing less than a legend.
Dr. Bernie, your influence hasn't been measured yet, not am I sure it can be. To have accomplished what you did in your short life is astounding. You are, were and always will be a brilliant light on this planet in the form of the most inspired music. To create something that gives people joy and then makes them want to dance.....well, that is everything. Having danced my whole life, I can say, without question, you moved me in the most funked up, grooved down, hip gyrating, ass shaking, sexy ways. Wizard of Woo!!! You better freaking believe it!!!!! When you came to this plane you were already an ascended master, now, you are the master. I, and so many more, feel love and gratitude towards you and your music before, now and always. Thank you seems so pedestrian and small but in human terms, well, its about the best thing you can say to someone you truly love and appreciate. So Dr. Bernie, Thank You. Thank You. Thank You.
Thanks for all the wonderful 1970's funk songs that have inspired me to play the guitar. Hope your with the LORD in Heaven.

Cousin Bernie, Your light continues to shine in all that you have contributed throughout the years as family, friend, musician extraordinaire and phenomenal artist. Bernie was one of the greatest keyboard players of all time. There's not enough time in the day to describe his impact on the P-Funk. Yet there was so much more to his music than just that. He really had the whole spectrum of musical genres at his fingertips with his limitless talent. Let me just say RIP Bernie Worrell and may your music and spirit live forever.

Dear Brother Bernie, there will always be a place in my heart and soul for your kind of genius. Your Soul has rejoined The Great Spirit in the Sky and it is now that much funkier. We will celebrate you, your music and your Spirit always. Blessings Brother, given the difficulty that you faced you never lost your humanity, I will always remember you amazing humanity, so humble, so mellow:-(
I was Bernie and Judie's auto mechanic when they lived in NJ. I didn't know of their notoriety for almost a year after we met but I always admired them as being really down to earth people. After I found out Bernie told me he was raised to be humble. I have to say he was one of the nicest gentleman I have ever had the pleasure of knowing! RIP my friend and I hope one day we meet again!
There have been some big names who have left this world but, for me, none more important than Bernie who I once met at a P-Funk concert in London while he was walking to the stage. He stopped for a chat before performing all of his wizardry. The news hardly got any coverage in the UK as politics this week took over. I just want to thank Bernie. P-funk has been my saviour overs the years and the Wizard of Woo played a huge part in that. So, off the iPod goes Prince to be replaced by Insurance Man for the Funk. Genius.
From one musician to another, keep the funk alive
When I go to a funkadelic show i look on the stage to see who was there I would look for two people,Skeet Curtis and Bernie Worrell, my top five P-Funk jams has Insurance Man for the Funk in it.........Rest In Peace Bernie
I would like to share my prayers to the family. I am a long time fan of Parlamint-Funkadelic. Got the albums to prove it god bless you Bernie
Thank You Bernie For All the Memories, R.I.P.

Peace and smiles you, your family, friends, and admirers.
God and Heaven has the ultimate band of musicians with the ascension of our beloved brother Bernie and those who preceded him in passing. I will forever remember the times visiting his home in Plainfield NJ, watching him playing his Clavinet in the basement. Starting out as a funk jam, then turning into Beethoven. Those were teachings you can never get in school. Another genius has gone home and the world is a sadder place because of it. God bless Bernie, love always!
Rest in Peace, Great One.....
Goodbye great man. We love you.
This guy was off the hook. I've listen to him since the 70s
My deepest condolences to the family & friends,of Our beloved mastero of the keyboards.Rest my dear friend & one day we shall meet again in Our Father houseHold bless!!!!! :-)
Bernie, What a joy & a blessing to see your smiling wonderful face at the Dunedin Brewery last year in Florida!! I cannot believe that we & I got to experience the Lifetime Funk that you brought to all of us with your music & your fabulous presence. We will all miss you so much & are blessed to have known you through your music and your awesome positivity. I can't believe we lost you & Dr. Ralph Stanley in the same week. Heaven's choir must be rockin' now, but we are at a loss down here.....
The most blessed musician I was blessed to hear and know. God bless your talented soul. You are now heavens musical director.
I feel so blessed to have lived during a time when a man like Bernie Worrell was making great music. I've enjoyed everything he's done for years and I'm terribly sad to hear he's passed. I want to offer my heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends and for you to know I'm praying for you in the coming days.
We were LUCKY to hear him perform with Talking Heads, PFunk, Bootsy. Our Deepest Condolence. Thank you to his family for sharing him with all of us. Rebecca Apodaca
Grace & Peace Always to Elder Worrell and Family. Thank you for all of the wonderful music. Rest In Eternal Love.
My lifelong idol who I was blessed to meet and have a conversation with regarding the science of keyboard and synthesizer programming and playing. A very accomplished yet humble man. I can only wish I will be remembered as such. Flashlight is and always will be my favorite song! Ride on Bernie!
All I know is this. I had the pleasure of hanging with Bernie for a few hours after a Bootsy and the New Rubberband gig in Mannheim Germany in 1998. We walked and talked about LIFE and all it has to offer. He respected me as a soldier and I respected him as a musician, teacher and great person. I told him that FLASHLIGHT changed the sound of music. He tried to act like it was no big deal until I told him that his playing would be spoken in the same breath as Beethoven and Bach. And they WERE NOT MUSICIANS...fly on brother Bernie!
You are the Funk, Bernie. Much Love Always im Gonna Keep Groovin
I would like to give my condolences to the Worrell Family, this is a tremendous loss for you all and all of his fans. I pray that God will comfort you during this time of sorrow and grief.
Bernie.....what can I say. It was YOUR sound that got me into the funk. Only you could come up with the most innovative and hip sounds. Thank you so much for the music and joy. Rest easy :)
Thought I was prepared for this, but I'm not. All there is to say is "Thank you and Judie for everything. It's just been...profound."
As a young man seeing and hearing ou in concert changed my life for the better. Thank you
Peaceful journey home Mr. Worrell. My partner Steve and I had the pleasure of meeting you in 2015 at a New Haven, CT establishment, where you graced the stage. I still remember the otherworldly experience of seeing the Wizard of Woo live several years ago. It was absolutely transcendent! My thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones at this heartbreaking time. Rest In Paradise, Mr. Worrell.
I am very sad to hear of the passing of the great Bernie Worrell. On his visit to Los Angeles 4 years ago, I had the opportunity to put together a Horn section at the request of Evan Taylor to perform with Bernie at the Bootleg in LA. I did not realize who Bernie was at the time but learned very quickly about this master!! To this day, it has been one of the funkiest gigs I have played! Thanks to Evan Taylor and Glenn Fittin for hooking me and the boys up!! Thanks to Bernie, the funk will live on FOREVER!!! Gods Blessing to the Worrell Family!!
Thanks for the memory

So much too say about The Master Maestro. i'm still trying to fathom the reality of living my life as a dedicated P-Funkateer all the way up to actually being a member of Bernie's Woo Warriors. Always humbling just to be in Dr. Worrell's presence. Bernie CHANGED and Reshaped the whole musical landscape forever with his musical and spiritual prowess. It's hard not to be sad for this TREMENDOUS loss. my heart is empty now, however, there is now room and space inside for me to internalize Dr. Worrell's spirit, love and advice to carry on. He always, "It's not up to me, it's up to the HIM" as he would point to the sky. Thank You Dr. Worrell, for your gifts, and just allowing me to be in your presence.

I only hope that there is a keyboard in the afterlife for you to make it sing.
God Bless you Bernie, I Loved Every second that we spent together. You've allowed me to travel the "Woo niverse" with you. If it wasn't for you, Funk wouldn't be Funky!
I will cherish Every bleep, snarly, whoop bling, plop, pluck, wiggly, funk bass sound that the synthesizer will ever make, and I will remember just how you made them into The Most influencial sound we called Funk.
May You Rest Forever Peaceful.

RIP Bernie, you were a true innovator and class act.
Judie and Bassl, so sorry to hear of Bernie's passing. We saw him perform a few years ago in Frostburg, MD and he took a few minutes to talk to us, proud of Bassl. Remembering how graciously he performed at ECLC. Loved his music
A the best to Bernie's Family and Friends. He had such an impact on the world-- made it a better place. The man was a genius.
Maybe it's not the time to say it-- or maybe it is exactly the right time to say it-- but, it's sad that so many of us have to turn to crowd funding to pay for medical treatment. There's something wrong here. We can do better-- one nation under a groove.
Jam on, Bernie.

Judie, my heart is with you in your grieving. As a kid in JC,NJ in High School during those formative P-Funk years I remember how Bernie really touched me musically. He really came to the fore on America Eats Its Young and as we know his musical influence took off greatly from there. I met him in Ballard Seattle a few years ago and that Jersey City kid came back as I gushed at meeting one of my heroes. That was the first real conversation. I actually first met him in 1975 in Norfolk when the Funks opened for Rufus and Chaka. He was in the crowd after the Funks played a blistering set, but he just wanted to check out Rufus from in front of the stage. Grace, Class, Genius. Love you Dr. Worrell.
to the greatest keyboard player of the 20th century, you will be missed...
forever in the funk, love you man!!!
forever in the funk, love you man!!!
Bernie, thank you for all the music you brought to the world. May you now be playing in that Celestial sky.
R.I.P. You Funky Homosapien. When the Mothership landed in Kansas City eons ago, You took my hand and lead me aboard. We funked up that place. Then again with spaceman Clinton and Parliment for an all night funkadelic disco deep in the heart of the Ozarks. My Funkster, my brother in the groove, the man of sultry funkalicious decadent sound clouds. You will always be a funkitonic riff of vibratory sonic seduction deep in my soul. With feather in hand, My Hat is off to you.
Bernie you are one of a kind . I will never forget all the times I saw you play and the times we spent together working on projects such as burning spear Jah is real studio album and Bearcreek plus a bunch of other places and films. You were born 4/19 and I 4/20, You left us on 6/24 and my son was born on 6/25! Respect Bernie. Everyone who was in your presence was lifted to a higher ground. The most humble and good man you were!
We miss you Bernie. Thank you for the music that you have put in my life.
My spirit shall be eternally grateful for you presence within it!!! Now I know my Heaven is gonna be funky!!!
Parliament/Funkadelic helped me get through Nam and so many other things.
When I saw them in Michigan many moons ago, they dropped the Mothership on the stage and I could not contain myself. wished I had had some of the meds they had to have taken. -)
RIP Bernie and you helped make my funk the P-Funk. Love you and peace to all who felt the same.

?️Dr. G Thanks for Being all of what God wanted you to be, In this world of Woo it was you , who truly knew how to give to this Earth atmosphere, Fly on Brother job well done.
So sad to find out about Bernie's illness last weekend, and now he's gone. A sad day for music! Living in Asheville, I got to see Bernie a lot in the last 15 years, thankfully! Whether with his Wizards of WOO, his Orchestra, or as a sideman to Steve Kimock [who's he? I went to see Bernie!], music director for Bootsy Collins, Special guest Uncle to Volts Per Octave. I even saw him at a screening of "Stranger" and asked him a question afterward! It was fully evident that this man and music itself, were inseparable; one and the same. He gave himself to music and became the medium for it to in turn enrich our lives in every kind of genre. Rest in Peace, Mr. Worrell and love and respect to his family and loved ones.
Never knew his true musical genius was so respected until recent years....BUT! I've felt his musical genius for over 4 decades......he knew how to #KeepTheFunkAlive.
Rest in Peace your music lives on

Thank you for sharing your wondrous talents and overwhelming joy. You will be greatly missed.
Still got the fantastic Funkadelic Vinyl Album "America Eats Its Young", released and bought 1972 with Mister B. Worrell. And a advise for all the Trump Voters in the United States, a song on that Album called:" If vou don´t like the effects, don´t produce the cause !" Rest in Peace Mr. Worrell, and greetings from Germany.
Miss his talent so very much.
Thank you for being our mentor & friend.
I feel you in the great field of energy that surrounds us all.
Judie & Basil - My thoughts are with you.

Everybody's got a little light under the sun. Thanks for using your talent to provide a soundtrack for a phase of my life. My love for the music remains.
Rest in peace. Your music was and is an integral part of my life. My favorite songs are contained in the music of P-Funk. You have left the world better than you found it.
Thanks for so much great music. It was always an honor to see you perform live! You will be missed but you'll always be in my house with every P-Funk song I play! RIP
You are a true legend, a true genius, a keyboard wizard and one of my biggest musical influences. Your genius will live on forever in the music you made and in the contributions you've made to music. It was an honour to meet you and play with you back in the day and it will continue t be my pleasure to listen to wonderful music you made.
I've been listening to Bernie non stop for a few days now. What an amazing person. I'll never forget the brief time I got to meet Bernie, or the times i stood there bobbing my head with a psycho grin on my face watching his wizardry on the keys. He truly was one of a kind.
My mother too died from lung cancer, and unfortunately was rather quick, I'm glad he had some time with family before he returned to the mothership. My deepest condolonces to Judie and his family and close friends.

Bernie, you are a shining light whose light shall forever shine upon us. You left an indelible mark on the world with your incredible contributions to music and the love that you expressed toward humanity. I will miss your earthly presence greatly and feel blessed that I had the opportunity to hear you play and to meet you in person. You will forever have your piece of light under the sun.
Thanks Bernie for gifting the world with music. I was also a keyboard player with Hugh Masekela during the Mothership Connection tour featuring Parliament Funkadelics in 1974, Bernie was such an inspiration to me. Rest on well in the land of the Spirits.
The Sweet Chariot has swung down low. Time to ride. R.I.F, the Whole Funk and nothing but the Funk!

I met you at a woo-ful gig in Chicago, Judie. You have been the most woonderful champion of all things Bernie. Today I feel for those who knew & loved him most personally, like, for example, his multi-Rubberband brother Bootsy. Yet just a bit more I hope for solace in peace for you, Judie. Your fortitude over the course of this year reminds me of the unreckonable resolve my mother showed when she took it upon herself usher my father forth. Woo together forever, Dr. G. Bernard Worrell, Jr.
One of the greatest keyboard players to ever live. ?✌️
My condolences to the family. The levels may be different...but one we all live and admired has transitioned. From my first live encounter...'75-'76 in Denton, Texas during the 1st leg of the Mothership tour....when they had tech issues and Bernie fired up the biggest joint I'd ever seen and gave the most incredible solo keyboard performance I'd ever seen (about 20 minutes worth)..playing every synth in his arsenal....to today, when his legacy is iron clad. I'm proud thst my nephew gravitated to my LPs..fell in love with PFunk and idolized Bernie and is now a self taught musician and producer with major artist credits for which he credits Bernie as his musical inspiration.
WITH SO MUCH LOVE AND WOO,
WILL B SORELY MISSED.
WILL B SORELY MISSED.
Dr. Worrell, your musical genius and life lessons through the University of Funk help to make this journey so interesting and fun...see you on the other side...Peace and thank you!

Funk in space and time; the wizard of woo has left the building.
Hurts so bad to know he would have to appear in his own fundraiser concert to pay for his cancer treatment !

For the Departed:
O God of spirits and of all flesh, Who hast trampled down death and overthrown the Devil, and given life to Thy world, do Thou, the same Lord, give rest to the souls of Thy departed servants in a place of brightness, a place of refreshment, a place of repose, where all sickness, sighing, and sorrow have fled away. Pardon every transgression which they have committed, whether by word or deed or thought. For Thou art a good God and lovest mankind; because there is no man who lives yet does not sin, for Thou only art without sin, Thy righteousness is to all eternity, and Thy word is truth.
For Thou are the Resurrection, the Life, and the Repose of Thy servants who have fallen asleep, O Christ our God, and unto Thee we ascribe glory, together with Thy Father, who is from everlasting, and Thine all-holy, good, and life-creating Spirit, now and ever unto ages of ages. Amen.
Love, peace, and prayers for strength, dearest Judie, Dawn, Bassl and family . God be with you all. DD

It takes a loving su pportive partner to bring out the best in the person they love. I feel certain you did that for Bernie. And now you've given him wings to fly May You find Joy in your memories.
It's difficult to say goodbye to a mentor...A man who has influenced my style of play, my writing, and my soul for so many years....The master keyboardist, wizard and one of the true musical genius's behind the great Parliament-Funkadelic ground breaking funk opus, "KNEE-DEEP." 15 minutes of the most funky, soulful, melodic, most hypnotic chord progressions in music history.."The Freak of the Week!"
The Wizard of Woo totally slayed the keyboard tracks on this recording, and everything else he played....But in my humble opinion, no other funk offering will ever top KNEE DEEP! With George Clinton and Philipe Wynn....Knee Deep is one of the most sampled tracks in hip/hop lore....
He was brilliant! An incredible teacher...An "out of this world" pianist/keyboardist and composer....Bernie's hooks will be sung forever...And they should be...Rest with the ancestors now Bernie. After so many years of labor, you've earned this reward. Peace!

Bernie Worrell's music was my candle in a dark room. He made me feel alive and not alone in this big world. Thank you isn't a strong enough word but it's all that I can say right now.
Thank you. i miss you funk.
My first and only professor. Bernie produced the first Momma Stud record and I'm so very saddened by the news. He and I grew particularly close, and he remained in contact with all the Momma Stud members throughout all these years. A true soul, that never stepped out of his spiritual boundaries, with absolute artistic integrity and his music reflected that. When Bernard played or sang, something happened to me on a cellular level, something new, his entire sound is the backbone of West Coast hip hop (ask Dre). My love goes out to Judy and Basil. Goodbye professor Wizard.
Thank you Bernie Worrell for what you gave to this world. So many good healing feelings through those keystrokes. Nobody but You. Saw the Mothership land @ the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis. Y'all tore the roof off the sucker! And when You released ' All the Woo In the World' I played the grooves off the sucker?????. So again thanks Bernie. And my condolences to the Family??????.
Rest N' Funk Dr.???

I will never forget my first p-funk concert with Bernie playing the keyboard like a berzerk. he was getting 1 with the keyboard. There was a special connection between him and the music.Everyone could feel it. Thank you for the MAGIC!
Loving condolences to Judie and family. Thank you for being a sun in my musical constellation.

Thank for all the real good times. So much love and respect to you Bernie.
For Bernie, All I really want to write is thank you.
Dear Mrs Worrell and family/friends,
At this moment in time, I'm feeling alot like Bernie, short on words and heavy on the music. I could never say thank you enough for his influence and spirit, I can't put a sentence big enough or deep enough together to explain what he's done for me. I'm 22 years old. I'll forever lift his name and my children, grandchildren, etc will have knowledge of who and what this man was to music. Rest well, Bernie. Love you.

I feel so blessed to have been able to listen to his work and see his grand influence. There will never be another Bernie, but the woo will be felt through those he inspired forever. Thank you so much Bernie
So much love to Bernie and his incredible wife. I onced (naively) emailed his camp asking if he could jam in detroit... his amazing wife and manager let me know he doesn't "jam" like that anymore. There will never ever be another human like Bernie and I'm so thankful we got to share his gift from God. Everyone stay blessed and continue to Woo in his legacy. So sad he's left the physical form but I can't help but believe he's still in the wooniverse shaping the funk.
Bernie's sound blew my mind as a 14 year old growing up in the Bay Area. Been a Funkateer even since, but I had no idea he lived in rural Washington State. Thanks for opening my ears to some fantastic funk, Bernie.
THANK YOU so very much for all the wonderful music and deep inspiration, Dr. Worrell. Rest in peace.

It was a huge privilege to spend time with this kind, gentle, wonderful man in January 2011 at my friend Anthony Gemignani's music store All Star Music Academy in New Jersey. For almost an hour, Bernie Worrell took me on a personal journey through his career. It was meaningful not for the incredible stories and insight into the songs he helped shape and other great stories, but for how gentle and warm he was. He was such a humble man, driving himself to the interview, spending so much time with us, giving hugs generously, being a kind, decent dude. Bernie was among the most down to earth artists I've ever met, and so giving of his time. So kind and gentle. That is my overall memory; less about the content of our hour digging deep into his life in the funk, and more about the kind of man he was. Exemplary. He set the bar high and few if any have followed. God bless you, Bernie. Your death is so upsetting. It is just awful to know about. Be safe in Heaven, Bernie. Please say hi to my Mom and give her a hug for me. And my grandparents, too, please. I'll see you soon up there, my friend. Until then I am proud to sing your praises and tell people what a gentle spirit you truly are. All my love, Bernie. God bless you, you heroic man. Peace.
We partied a lifetime ago in Providence R.I. after the show.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars also had a floor.
It was Funktabulous, Unforgettable.
and Educational for all involved.

My condolences to the Worrell family. Bernie thank you for making the musical landscape a little brighter. R.I.H. and job well done.
In 1979 the theme song of our partying "Senior Skip Day" was "Flashlight". The song was forever etched in my brain, played over and over that day.33 years later I found my self In a studio with Bernie as he was helping produce a good friends album. I was just helping push buttons and at a break he turned to me and asked what I thought of a certain part of the track we were working on. I have no idea what my response was... a bonafide legend was asking my opinion. The man who was responsible for my induction to funk. I wanted to pinch myself to be sure I was not dreaming. All I remember is bernie agreeing with what I said and making me feel important and a part of the process, not just a knob turner. A kinder, gentler spirit I have never met. I know he is meant for even greater things beyond this...thank your Bernie for sharing your talent and spirit with us. I hope you knew how special you are and how much you will be missed. Enjoy what is next!
Happy Trails Beautiful Soul Thanks for the Music and the magic.....

Rest now you wonderful man. You gave us all such joy & pleasure for so many years. I was lucky enough to see you twice in concert with P-Funk, & you were a true musical genius. We will always remember you & you will always be in our hearts & will live on forever through your music.
Thank you Sir Woo Worrell, your contributions to our lives and to the future musicians is everlasting. The name Worrell and Moog will forever be synonymous ! Which is what Bernie shared with us all. Big ups, Mr. Worrell ! Grooveallegience to us all.

I Can't believe this!!I was Fearing this. Just like Bobby Womack never got2play his last set. After hearing of what happened recently w/ his health n was shocked he was still billed2play in a w/k or2. I Grew up on Pfunk. Bernie was such a nice guy. Running into him In Seattle was becoming regular at a time. We both talked about doin some exp/avante-garde stuff. I was shocked he wanted to do sum wild synths over couple my trax I sent. Him, like a lot of sick artists were idols&taught me young you didn't need to play 4/4 pop bs. He was another master lost in 2016. I can't express the sadness&condolences. Than yesterday SF punker Barker died.Sun also.2016 won't stop stealing my friends&legends. RIP Mr. Woo. You will always be a pure slice of Heaven in my book. You have given us all so many wonderful "vibes". God's band is surely complete now. You will never be forgotten!
Dr. Worrell, you inspired me before I even knew who you were or what instrument you played. I was trying to learn Flashlight on the electric bass and wasn't figuring it out. I went to the micromoog and thought "I'm closer, but nah that can't be a synth." I channel your approach every time I turn on my minimoog or any other synth. Thanks for defining for me what funk is and for making it so fun. I will always remember you! Deepest condolences to your loved ones. -EJK

I was invited by my good friend Gary "Mudbone" Cooper out to be a special guest vocalist with Bootsy's Rubber Band who opened for Parliament. I will always remember his down-to-earthness with any and everyone he encountered. Great musician, even greater human being!

My heart is so heavy right now. I remember as a child being a true funkateer playing all parliament music. Whatever Bernie ' s costume was I would try to make it at home get in front of the mirror and act as if I were on stage with the crew...years later I was afforded the privilege of working as Funkadelics stage tech, boy what a blast and cherishable experience. Bernie was my big inspiration. To this day when I'm playing keys it is him I think about and try to be like...Now this, but God truly loves him better than we could ever imagine. Love you Woo
We Will miss you my brother ...we Love you cause you made us love ourselves

I met you and your wife during the last reunion tour with P-funk. I won't go into the whole story of that meeting. I did walk away knowing you were a TRUE musician who was a genius not fully recognized, and you were ok with that..you just kept playing and creating. No one is like you Bernie. Flashlight..now U have light Under The Sun

I can't even describe how much I loved the sounds Bernie made. I saw him play with the Woo Warriors in Farmingdale NY about a decade ago and got to shake his hand. He was kind and humble. Over the years I saw him guide a new generation of funk in NYC with Deep Banana Blackout, Lettuce, Soulive, and other young musicians that looked to him as a forefather. Thank you Bernie. You are loved and missed already.
Bernie your music lit my musical pathway. Thank you for your contributions to the Funk.
Rest in peace Bernie fly on brother with love
Thank you, Bernie for providing much of the soundtrack to my youth, and so many happy memories. You're joining quite an ensemble up there...I know Heaven's gonna be real funky now.
Dear Great Purple Spirit! You touched and graced us here on earth and beyond with your funkiness, joy and kindness. I feel especially blessed to have been alive during your 72 year sojourn on the planet.... As you dropped this mortal coil, you now are the infinite colors of all harmonies, melodies that stretch across the cosmos. R.I.P. Brother Worrell
No way to describe how the loss feels I'm just grateful to Dr Woo for more than simply the music but also the example of being so humble and kind in the face of his greatness.
The day before his transition, I was suddenly moved to listen to Parliament's "Aqua Boogie" and "Theme From The Black Hole," particularly to hear Bernie's phat moog bass lines. Today I now believe my urge to hear those grooves was Dr. Worrell waving farewell before his ascension. Thank you so very much, dear BW, for enhancing my life of listening here on earth. Much Love and everlasting peace.
Play on in Peace Bro' Bernie, We still hear Ya! And won't soon forget!
Being Born of, and Raised on FUNK, my earliest memories are backed by a soundtrack that has Bernie's fingerprints splattered all over it. I shall morn you Ascension, I shall CELEBRATE. your life!!!Peaceful journey Bernie!!!

Seems like you were always there somewhere, tickling those keys and funking things up in the best way. You still are. Always will. Thanks for your generosity, your chops and your beautiful spirit.
I had the pleasure of making Dr Worrell's acquaintance during the late '90's when he brought the Woo Warriors to NYC and played Knitting Factory. Although having seen him several times with P-Funk some 20 years previously, this was a more casual setting which allowed us a chance to speak at length. Dr Worrell was a perfect gentleman, even purchasing me a cocktail while he recounted personal stories of the road. As I was leaving, he stopped me saying he'd really enjoyed our conversation and wanted to give me a shirt. I still wear it to this day. The Man defined what it means to be a Class Act!
The Wizard Is Dead, Long Live The Woo! R.I.P.
Fly on brotha. As a keyboardist you were my greatest inspiration and teacher. You meant the World to me. Thanks for everything Bernie. May you live eternally through your music. Hugs Judie.

Every key on your board had a different personality. It was as if your music was born from the touch of imagery. You had a synesthetic magic to your art and there can never be another like you. Thank you for the funk, thank you for the purple, thank you for the grooves that brought mankind together. Peace be with you and your family, Bernie.

Peace and Blessings Bernie.
I used to bring Bernie to my school to talk and play with my students. He was so gracious to do it. So many memories from that experience. The best was the band I have with my students asked him to play Pharrell's "Happy". He didn't know the song but jammed anyway. He was amazing. I took a solo and quoted the jazz standard "Work Song". Bernie finished my quote. My best experience playing music in my life. Afterwards, Bernie asked me the name of the quote we both played! He was an encyclopedia of music. A true genius. I will miss you!
My Heart goes out to the Worrell Familia . Any one who knows music is well aware that Mr Worrell was the main source of the beauty of P-Funk and the underlying groove. Blacktronic Science is one of my favorite records any fan should own it . Many Blessings
