Bernie, What a joy & a blessing to see your smiling wonderful face at the Dunedin Brewery last year in Florida!! I cannot believe that we & I got to experience the Lifetime Funk that you brought to all of us with your music & your fabulous presence. We will all miss you so much & are blessed to have known you through your music and your awesome positivity. I can't believe we lost you & Dr. Ralph Stanley in the same week. Heaven's choir must be rockin' now, but we are at a loss down here.....

My lifelong idol who I was blessed to meet and have a conversation with regarding the science of keyboard and synthesizer programming and playing. A very accomplished yet humble man. I can only wish I will be remembered as such. Flashlight is and always will be my favorite song! Ride on Bernie!

All I know is this. I had the pleasure of hanging with Bernie for a few hours after a Bootsy and the New Rubberband gig in Mannheim Germany in 1998. We walked and talked about LIFE and all it has to offer. He respected me as a soldier and I respected him as a musician, teacher and great person. I told him that FLASHLIGHT changed the sound of music. He tried to act like it was no big deal until I told him that his playing would be spoken in the same breath as Beethoven and Bach. And they WERE NOT MUSICIANS...fly on brother Bernie!

Bernie.....what can I say. It was YOUR sound that got me into the funk. Only you could come up with the most innovative and hip sounds. Thank you so much for the music and joy. Rest easy :)

Peaceful journey home Mr. Worrell. My partner Steve and I had the pleasure of meeting you in 2015 at a New Haven, CT establishment, where you graced the stage. You graciously stopped at our table after your set and we met you with warm accolades of your greatness. It was our pleasure! Rest on your..your work is done here! The party continues in heaven.

I still remember the otherworldly experience of seeing the Wizard of Woo live several years ago. It was absolutely transcendent! My thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones at this heartbreaking time. Rest In Paradise, Mr. Worrell.

I am very sad to hear of the passing of the great Bernie Worrell. On his visit to Los Angeles 4 years ago, I had the opportunity to put together a Horn section at the request of Evan Taylor to perform with Bernie at the Bootleg in LA. I did not realize who Bernie was at the time but learned very quickly about this master!! To this day, it has been one of the funkiest gigs I have played! Thanks to Evan Taylor and Glenn Fittin for hooking me and the boys up!! Thanks to Bernie, the funk will live on FOREVER!!! Gods Blessing to the Worrell Family!!
